Over the years, Martin Fischer-Dieskau has conducted nearly 100 orchestras. This week, the maestro is in Round Top, working with the young artists to perform an all-Berlioz program on Saturday evening when he makes his debut on the Festival Concert Hall stage, conducting the Texas Festival Orchestra.

Sasha Cooke

Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke has been called a “luminous standout” and “equal parts poise, radiance and elegant directness”. Ms. Cooke is sought after by the world’s leading orchestras, opera companies, and chamber music ensembles for her versatile repertoire and commitment to new music. She will make an appearance on the Festival Concert Hall stage this weekend.

The closing week of the Round Top Music Festival features eight events, including three concerts this weekend. On Saturday, July 13 at 7:30 pm, Martin Fischer-Dieskau conducts the Texas Festival Orchestra in three works by Hector Berlioz. The acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Sasha Cooke, joins the TFO in the performance of Les Nuits d'Ete (Summer Nights), Op. 81. Adult $40. Student $10. Buy Tickets Now

This Saturday's afternoon concerts include the 2019 Percussion Section Showcase at 1:30 pm in the Festival Concert Hall. The annual event features young artists on various percussion instruments, playing pieces they have worked on with their Round Top faculty. Program to be announced. Adult $25. Student $10. At 3:30 pm in the concert hall, RTFI faculty and young artists present a Chamber Music Concert of works by Johannes Brahms and Franz Paul Lachner. Featured faculty during the mid-afternoon concert include Gretchen Pusch, flute; Jason Shafer, clarinet; Kristin Wolfe Jensen, bassoon; Albert Suarez, horn; Vladimir Valjarevic, piano; Tomas Cotik, violin; Brett Deubner, viola; Stephen Balderston, cello; and Brett Shurtliffe, double bass. A special concert on Friday, July 12 at 7:30 pm in the concert hall will feature The Best of the 2019 Chamber Music Program. During the six weeks of the festival, students participate in coached chamber music groups. After intense competition, groups are selected by faculty to give a public performance on the last Friday evening of the festival. Program to be announced. Adult $25. Student $10.
