Lee County is holding training for volunteers who would like to help with an emergency shelter when one is needed in our county. In the last four years we have experienced three disasters that required Lee County to open up an emergency shelter. In past disasters, the American Red Cross has assisted us in staffing these shelters. Once contacted, it takes the Red Cross approximately 24 to 36 hours to get volunteers from across the US to help staff the shelter. During this time, we
have staffed the shelter with local volunteers to operate the shelter until the Red Cross assumes responsibility of the shelter.
Lee County and the Red Cross are looking for volunteers to be trained as American Red Cross Shelter Volunteers for Lee County. If you would like to assist in Emergency Shelter Operations, please join us at one of these FREE trainings. Certificates will be awarded. Volunteers must be at least 18 and agree to a background check.
Training covers basic shelter operations and fundamentals. Each participant will be
certified as an American Red Cross Shelter Volunteer. Walk-ins welcome. No need to
This is a free three hour training. We have scheduled two separate classes to
accommodate work schedules. Feel free to attend whichever one fits your schedule best.
