    Giddings Public Library & Cultural Center and the Giddings Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the 10th Annual Texas Word Wranglers Festival.

    On Thursday September 8th, during the day, the authors are invited to visit the Giddings Public Schools to talk to students about the writing process, ideas for stories, how a book is taken from the idea to the written page and much more.  

    Thursday evening a fundraising gala event is held to introduce the authors to the community. Tickets may be purchased at the Giddings Library.

    On Friday 9th, authors will have their same tables for the day to visit with the public and sell their books.

    Texas Word Wrangler Book Festival

    TWWF started in 2005, so Giddings could recognize and encourage the many talented authors in Texas. Authors come to meet the community, speak to the schools and sell and autograph their books.

    Used Book Sale

    The Lee County Youth Center will be having a Used Book Sale on Saturday, September 10 from 10am til 1pm, co­-sponsored by the Giddings Chamber of Commerce. 90% of all the proceeds from the Used Book Sale will go to the LCYC to help fund their programs for our children.

    The LCYC is asking for donations of used books of all genres and types at this time, so go through your bookshelves and garage! This is a great time to pass along any literature you can no longer use. You may bring donations to the LCYC at 1010 E. Industry on Mon­-Thurs from 3pm­-6pm. You may also bring donations to the Visitor's Center and Railroad Museum at 289 W. Railroad on Saturdays from 10am­-5pm and Sundays from 1pm­-5pm. Donations will be accepted through Thursday, September 8th. All donations are tax deductible.

    The Giddings New Horizons Lions Brain Power Five & Dime includes a 5K Run/Walk and a 10K Run. Run or walk in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone currently struggling with this disease. Funds raised this year will be donated to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation which focuses on research.

    Enjoy the traditions of the Wendish and see demonstrations of noodle, saurkraut & sausage making as well as the painting of the beautiful Easter eggs. Tour the St. Paul Lutheran painted church and Wendish Museum. Other sites and activities include food, stone ground corn meal, classic autos and farm equipment, contests, coffee cake bake off, auctions and things for the children.

    The program will include a barbecue cookoff. Check in and pre-cookoff activities will be on Friday and the IBCA  activities will be on Saturday.

    The Cookoff is at a new location (Firemen's Park) with more access to electricity and water.

    Early bird barbecue registration is $150 until 9/17/16
    Regular registration is $175 after that.
    Sites are first-come-first-served
    Other categories include: Cook's Choice Entry, Jackpot Beans Entry, Desserts, Jalapeno Grill Off and Margarita Mix Off.

    There will be live music by Briana Adams.

    Proceeds to benefit Combined Community Action "Meals on Wheels."

    Black Bridge Fest & Mini Marathon

    ANNUAL DIME BOX  BLACK BRIDGE FESTIVAL & 39TH ANNUAL MINI-MARTHON (10K,  5K & 2 mile run, 2 mile walk) featuring  a BBQ  Cook Off, Parade, Craft and Swap Booths, classic cars, quilt display, tractor show,  live music, Youth Horseless Play Day, team roping, street dances.


    Friday, Sep 30, Beginning at 6 PM – chili/soup supper, music & street dance, 42 Tournament, Little Miss and Mr Black Bridge contest.  

    Saturday. Oct 1, Mini Marathon begins at 9 AM, followed by fun, food, and games.  

    Hosted by the Dime Box Lions Club.  Proceeds benefit Lions projects and “Black Bridge Park”

    Haunted House Fundraiser

    Come see your 1918 Sterling Theatre transformed into a spooky haunted house for ages 12 and up. All admission goes towards the renovations of the theater. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and up. Anyone younger than 12 must be accompanied by a parent.

    Concessions will be available for purchase.
